A montage of playful moments of their time together follows, until Anja realizes that Odin should probably be with other reindeer. Luckily, Santa has an open spot on his team. With a similar quest to the North Pole and the "Was it all just a dream?" ending, this book will appeal to fans of the previous books, who will find much comfort in the familiarity. Thanks for the Magical Adventure with Anja

Even though it's a gorgeous October day and we just jumped in a big pile of leaves, I'll confess, I'm getting excited for Christmas and a beautiful snowfall after reading The Reindeer Wish by Lori Evert. Anja (the sweet little imaginative girl from The Christmas Wish and The Tiny Wish) takes us on another magical adventure in the woods far far away where she discovers a lost baby reindeer. My favorite part of the book was when the reindeer went to school. The pictures of Anja (taken by her father Per Breiehagen, Lori's husband) are amazing! It's so easy to imagine being one with nature while reading this book. Last Christmas we were introduced to Anja and her wilderness friends. We're so excited to continue this journey with her as she helps prepare one of Santa's reindeer.

Great Book for Christmas Eve reading.

I buy a Christmas book each year for my grands. Last year it was the first book the wish. My heritage is from the Nordic countries so it is great to great to the little one's on Christmas eve. It always gives the children something to think about after and keeps that special feeling of magic in there heart.

Tom Cole was a larger than life true blue Australian adventurer--crocodile hunter, horse-breaker,buffalo-shooter,ranch manager and explorer.His autobiography is written with great humor.It is set in the last true frontier--the Australian outback.A marvellous book.

Not So Long Ago...

Tom Cole reveals the Northern Territory of Australia in all its untamed and raw delights. Amazingly we had barely encroached on this area just 50 years ago, a fact he bears witness to. He passed away just a few years ago, but left us several good books before he departed. This one relates the story of his life as a stockman (cowboy) and croc hunter, of the people & cattle stations which began to spread across the territory, and attests to the difficulty in establishing their viability.

Hell West and Crooked derives it's title from an Australian stockman's term to describe cattle and livestock scattered far and wide all over the Outback countryside.

This book is part biography, part adventure, and part history. Tom Cole was the real deal, a son of the great Australian Outback, and a keen observer of what it was like to live in the Northern Territory of Australia in the 1920's and 1930's. It is an easy and entertaining journal of this young man's life in those wild times. He was a stockmen, horse breaker, consummate horseman, buffalo hunter, and crocodile hunter long before Mick Dundee.

Tom Cole's writing style vividly presents what it was like to live on the frontier of a still sparsely populated land even today.

This is a modsecurity book ONLY

The description seemed misleading. This book dedicates its entirety to apache modsecurity. Any and all of the defenses are with modsecurity.

So, 5 stars if you wanted a book on modsecurity. I obviously did not.

The defenses were basic and probably well written out, if you use modsecurity and need help understanding it. I personally have no use for this book and a complete waste of money.

Most of us would think 'web application' as our program we built as a web application. Apache is a webserver. I was hoping for a book that might have extra guidelines or thoughts on adding great things to your web apps to defend them.

This book does none of that for me.

So, if you are not looking for mod security info, do not waste money. Seller should add 'modsecurity' only and possibly renamed the book as 'Modsecurity used to defend web apps' or something.

buyer beware.

to top it off, this book is not 'new'...it has scratches all over the cover. If it is new then it was damaged from shipping...

EDIT: I have contacted wiley and a rep will be getting back to me about changing this description from 'great techniques AND some madsecurity code' to 'modsecurity techniques only'

Don't be misled by the small blurb about mod_security...this is all the book is, pure mod_Security.

Personally, if you want to use mod_Security I would highly recommend this book..but if you are looking for this as a companion to the hackers handbooks to beef up your web app security, then you will be completely disappointed and out 30 bucks.

Great security resource for web application developers

While far from scientific, a search of web application security vulnerabilities returns over 2,600,000 results. However you search for it, web applications need to be secured, and insecure web applications are a major problem.

In Web Application Defender's Cookbook: Battling Hackers and Protecting Users, author Ryan Barnett provides a highly technical resource for web application developers. All of the over 100 recipes are valuable tips on how to secure web applications.

In the forward to the book, Jeremiah Grossman of WhiteHat Security writes that a web defenders success comes down to understanding a few key points. One of those points is that defenders will find themselves responsible for protecting web suites they did not create and have little or no insight into or control over. That and Grossman's other observations highlight the imperative for organization to ensure that web application security is made an imperative.

Part of the challenge is that today's web sites are becoming more complex, with many interrelated connection, protocol and technologies. While many network infrastructures are a lot more secure; if web applications are not completely locked down, patched and secured, they are simply targets for attackers.

And the challenge is that even if a network is secured, it will still likely allow web traffic to pass through, given that http is perceived as friendly. And given that there is a lot that a firewall can't do; web application defense is a must-have item.
The reality is that securing web sites is difficult. But for those that want to ensure their web sites are as secure as possible, their developers should certainly implement the delicious recipes in Web Application Defender's Cookbook: Battling Hackers and Protecting Users.

Very good

It focuses a great deal on Mod Security for Apache; in some ways I wish it could be a bit more diversified.

I found the first part about measuring security to be very useful. It is beneficial to move beyond shock and awe when reporting about security to management. This book provides a way for real numbers that represent the validity of your security efforts.

About the Author

Dave Nichols has been involved in many forms of media both in front and behind the camera since 1978. He has written and produced over 1,200 TV commercials with Shadoe Stevens, Inc., a series of television comedy specials for HBO/Cinemax, and American Top 40 for ABC Watermark. He has produced live events for Jani International and live sports programs for television, created early-learning software for Microsoft, and developed ad campaigns for radio, TV, and feature film trailers for New World Pictures. Dave has been the editor-in-chief of Easyriders and V-Twin motorcycle magazines since 1998 and is currently overseeing ten automotive and motorcycle magazine titles for Paisano Publications, including the new Road Iron custom touring bike title. Nichols was the on-camera host of V-Twin TV, a 26-episode motorcycle-related television series seen on the SPEED channel. He is also the bestselling author of Top Chops, Indian Larry: Chopper Shaman, One Percenter, and One Percenter Code, all published by Motorbooks. He lives in Ashland, Oregon, and Los Angeles and is currently creating TV series and feature film projects with HBO producer Michael Hill.

Better known by her stage name, Bambi the Mermaid, Andrea Cambridge is a performer at Coney Island, where she met and married Indian Larry in the late 1990s.Since the early 1980s, Michael Lichter has been photographing custom motorcycles for the pages of Easyriders magazine--often hanging from the beds of pickup trucks during rainstorms or photographing packs of bikers in such places as Daytona Beach, Florida, and Sturgis, South Dakota. He has written and provided photography for a number of books, and he lives and works in Boulder, Colorado.

i know this may sound strange to some, but the way indian larry passed was the way i think a lot of us would like to go, in defiance of practicality. doing what it is that we truly love to do. taking a risk and then taking it again. im not a biker and i dont pretend to be, and not being one makes it difficult for me to conceptualize what a real biker truly is. but of all the biker shows i have watched and all the magazines and books i have read, indian larry truly embodies that image. he defines in my mind the quintissential biker. i watched biker build off from the begining and indian larry was instantly my favorite. of course being born and raised in brooklyn myself quickly endeared him to me. i remember around the time larry passed the pope had died too. and i remember thinking to myself, wow, the pope known and loved by billions and yet i feel nothing for him. and then here is this guy from brooklyn who builds motorcycles and lives an oddball lifestyle and says and does things that i instantly relate to. larry made me think, i mean truly ponder life in just a couple of hours that a world spiritual leader could not do in how many years? i never met you larry but i miss you. and if this sounds mushy to some, well im sorry. as for the book, its magnificent. a fitting tribute to a true motorcycle legend. great writing and excellent photographs from different times in larrys life. its really amazing to see the evolution of this man. the weight lifting muscle bound photos are a trip. then a couple pages later he has a drug-mug. then hes swimming at coney and riding his bike in shorts- in the winter! i hate the cold so these pix crack me up. there are plenty of studio bike photos of all the biker build off bikes. its a great book. any one who admired indian larry should have it and i am truly glad that i have one. p.s. to all the people who contributed to this book, you did an excellent job. jackthewack, march 06

Great photos, terrible writing

This could have been a much better book if it weren't for Nichols continual essays on how Indian Larry fits into the author's personal view of Viking mythology. After the umpteenth time reading how Indian Larry was a "mythic hero" confronting his self-made demons and emerging as a new person, I was ready to scream. Seriously, that thought makes up about 90% of the written content of the book. The pictures, and the brief comments from other bike builders are pretty interesting, but the maddening writing of Dave Nichols ruined this book for me.

Influential Larry

Larry was happy being who he was. He states as much in his interviews during his Biker Build Off episodes. I feel the author of this book forgets that and puts Larry high on this pedestal where Larry never wanted to be. His bikes was his art and he appreciated his fans that wanted to see it. What made him unique is that he was kind, caring and considerate. Traits that one hardly ever sees in a person, especially all at one time. This book does Larry justice when telling his story from boyhood to bikehood but loses its flavor when the author throws in his collegiate words to make his point on how great Larry was. Larry seemed, to me, like he was a simple man who wanted simple things and, to put it simply, wanted to share his art with those who would appreciate it. Long story short, this is a good book with a good read and some great photos.

BLACK SNOW (the Michael Glenny translation)

A delightful, well crafted, somewhat surreal comedy. It is a satire of literary and theatrical Moscow in the 1920's, specifically the Moscow Arts Theater and all the egos connected with it -- including Konstantin Stanislavsky, creator of the method style of acting.

For me, this novel has three elements that make a good story: a) a plot line, b) a protagonist who wants something and antagonists who get in his way, c) good characterizations. I actually enjoyed it more than his masterpiece, THE MASTER AND THE MARGARITA.

I love Russian novels but sometimes find them mean spirited: beatings, abuse, discrimination, the long tradition of boys torturing cats, etc.. And Jews, village idiots, and political prisoners tend to get it in the neck. But BLACK SNOW is a more light hearted affair, a delicious black comedy.

A Very Long Short Story - With a Surprising Ending

I really like Bukgakov. But this relatively short book was a bit of work to get through. Events and pace did not develop much throughout the story. But, the very end was a great surprise that almost made the read worth the effort. But pleasure reading shouldn't be an effort. One could easily read the first half of the book and then skip to the very end and get the same result.

Since my 2010 book, during which I discovered the consistency of wave projections within 3-wave structures, my ability to forecast - particularly Wave (iii) and Wave (iv) - has grown considerably. The very initial forecast I made for the DOW Jones Industrial Index in "Harmonic Elliott Wave" was the very first time I had ever been able to make credible forecasts in equity markets. Before that moment I had avoided analysing these markets. From that time, while there are always challenges (particularly in the lower - intraday - charts) the application of Harmonic Elliott Wave has provided me with many direct hits including the top of the first 5-wave rally from the inception of the DOW - identified 2-years in advance.Of course, there are tricky parts to the development and this requires application of supporting evidence through complementary analytical techniques to identify elements such as timing (cycles) momentum (multi-timeframe) to provide directional information and clear support & resistance areas. The wave structure itself also offers key targets at times.

REVIEWSHarmonic Elliott Wave (HEW) is the most intriguing new breed of Wave Principle I have ever encountered since I initially started using the Wave Principle over 20 years ago. One of the largest advantages of HEW, in my opinion, is that HEW's consistent ratio structure significantly reduces the subjectivity of wave counting inherent in the conventional Wave Principle. Also, HEW projects a single uniform structure under a forward-looking (ex-ante) discipline. This significantly reduces the need to adjust a wave count. Even when adjusting is made, the discipline of the ratio structure still must be adhered to. Furthermore, the eradication of extended waves, failed fifths and leading/lagging diagonals also dispenses with the need to persistently re-label wave counts in hindsight. With far-reaching implications for traders and investors everywhere, I recommend this book as a must-read for anyone interested in the Wave Principle.

About the Author
Ian Copsey is a veteran technical analyst having begun his career in markets 33 years ago in Barclays Bank trading rooms in London and Hong Kong - where he began his career as a technical analyst. He is author of Integrated Technical Analysis (1999) and Harmonic Elliott Wave (2011) and Fractal Forecasting (2015.) In 1993 he moved to Tokyo to work with Dow Jones Telerate for 7 years. He is an experienced speaker at technical analysis workshops and seminars.

Later Ian had experience in a start up company in Singapore before becoming an independent analyst, providing his daily Forex analysis, and later equity and metals reports. His work with Harmonic Elliott Wave has been applauded with some of the most accurate forecasts in the industry, in both Forex and equity markets. He forecast the May 2015 high in the Dow Jones Industrial Index two years in advance that followed his forecast in July 2010 when he suggested that the Dow Jones Index would complete its first 5-wave rally from inception.

In the latter half of the previous book (Grade1 Reading) it was filed with short stories and comprehension questions. I was expecting more of that in this one but turned out as I read through pages its more on short sentences and filling in missing words in those given sentences.

TRY FLASHKIDS INSTEAD

Flashkids produces a much higher quality textbook for children. The reading passages in Kumon are not engaging and interesting for children. The difference between Kumon and Flashkids is very obvious when you look at the reading passages. In flashkids, they use interesting history and science to educate children while they practice reading skills. Kumon just uses pointless bland passages.

a kid's favorite subject

My four-year-old has just discovered this book (the Danish translation) and he loves it. The setting is ancient Rome, before the sewer system. As you can imagine, folks are having a hard time getting rid of their...strawberries and chocolate mousse. Vesuvius Poovius makes two thrones fit for a Caesar and Caesarine and becomes our hero, after a really disgusting meal to move the bowels.

As a consequence, the much more volatile airport traffic restricts the value of detailed traffic forecasts. Volatility of airport traffic and its composition requires flexibility of airport strategies and planning processes.

The book explores this dilemma through a detailed study of airline network development, airport connectivity and airport planning in the deregulated EU air transport market. The questions the book seeks to answer are:
· how have airlines responded to the regime changes in EU aviation with respect to the configuration of their route networks?
· what has been the impact of the reconfiguration of airline network configurations for the connectivity of EU airports?
· how can airport planners and airport authorities deal with the increasingly uncertain airline network behaviour in Europe?

About the Author
Guillaume Burghouwt is a researcher at Amsterdam Aviation Economics, the air transport research cluster of SEO Economic Research, and academic director of Airneth, the worldwide scientific network on aviation research and policy. His key expertise concerns airline network development, connectivity studies, scenario analyses and airport planning issues. He has been engaged in many research and consultancy projects on air transport and has organized various international conferences and seminars on air transport policy and research. Between 2000 and 2005 he worked as a researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Geosciences, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. In February 2005 he completed his PhD research on airline network development and airport planning.
